Most were familiar with SweetRiver Bakery. Jay Witherbee stated he wants to put in an event center in one of his buildings. Mayor Howe also reported there was a Water Trail Association meeting last week in Wenatchee and they are moving along in their planning. There was a discussion of Pateros being a great place for a Poker Run, which would begin and end here in town. She suggested that we discuss this more at the next General Meeting.

School Briefing Report –

Principal Laura Christian stated that they are in the final seven weeks of the school year and are already preparing for next year.

Upcoming Event: Annual Banquet --

Joey Bruno reported that everything is set to go. Residents voted and named Bill and Betty Wagoner as Citizens of the Year and SweetRiver Bakery Business of the Year. The banquet will be held at 6:30 pm on April 28. There will be hors d'oeuvres and sweets, catered by B&B Meats and SweetRiver Bakery. Joey also noted that the Super Stop also contributes a lot each year. Linda Marsh reported that tickets are now available at City Hall for $10.00.

Upcoming Event: Business Appreciation & Safety Day --

Chamber Vice-President, Rebecca Meadows, reported that the event will be held on Saturday, May 3 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. She stated that the City has been wonderful putting together the Safety part of the event. Joey Bruno reported that the Okanogan PUD will be there, as will the Smokehouse for the kids. Brewster PD will not be there this year, but the Okanogan Sheriff ususally comes. Yancy’s Pateros Hardware will again cook the hotdogs. Rebecca said that businesses off the mall will set up booths. There will be a plant and book sale by the Library and she will be broadcasting for KOZI during the event. She stated there is a great partnership between the Chamber and City.

Guest: Winthrop 49er’s Royalty and Grand Lady –

Grand Lady Carol Stull introduced this year’s co-queens, Chelsea Hill and Jennie Stahl, who delighted all with a tandem presentation about the 49er’s Day event May 9 through 11 and invited all to attend. There will be a wagon train, parade, live music, a packers rendezvous, cowboy campfires, food and poetry, vendors and much more. They are also holding a raffle for a $500.00 gift certificate and shopping spree. Tickets are $5.00 each and winner will be announced at the dance. Grand Lade Carol Stull thanked the Chamber for having them at today’s meeting. She stated that she has been in Winthrop for just under fifty years and hope we all would enjoy coming up to the “wilderness” and visit Winthrop.

Guest: Jacque DePaoli, Chelan Aquatics & Community Center Committee –

Ms. DePaoli attended today’s meeting to discuss a possible aquatic recreation center in or near Chelan. She presented the Chamber with a print-out of her Power Point presentation, “Chelan Aquatics & Community Center, Vision with a View”, which outlines the makeup and goals of the committee, conceptual floor plans and addressing issues in funding and location. She stated that the center needs to be multi-use and appeal to visitors as well as residents, including early retirement baby boomers who want to remain active. Cost would be approximately ten million dollars to build. Location would not be as important as actually having the center built. The committee is challenging neighbor communities to consider the benefits. They are not asking for money, just consideration for this type of project and gettting the news out. She said for more information, visit their website at www.chelancac.com or contact Scott McKeller, who chairs the committee, at (509) 670-0044.

Apple Pie Jamboree –

Tracy Miller announced there will be an organizational meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22 at City Hall. Everything seems to be set for this year’s fireworks booth. The fireworks do not usually cost anything for the City, but Joey Bruno stated that people are needed to run the booth. There will be a sign-up sheet at City Hall for volunteers.

Miscellaneous --

Brenda White of Okanogan Douglas Hospital and the Well Wishers Relay for Life team announced the Relay for Life will be held May 16 through 17 at the Okanogan County track. She said this is an awesome event and all proceeds go to the American Cancer Society for cancer research. The team held a lasagna feed on Friday, April 11 and had about 193 takeout orders. Their last fundraiser will be a silent auction from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. on May 9 in the hospital lobby. This event usually raises approximately $2500.00 for the ACS.

Coleen Couch, President of the Brewster Chamber, reminded us that Bonanza Days will be held June 13, 14 and 15. There will be a small engine and tractor show, parade on Saturday, and games for the kids. There is a possibility that Paradise Amusements will be in town for the event and that there will be some tournaments going on. They are still doing the planning. Rebecca Meadows stated that the Apple Bin Races will be held immediately following the parade and Pateros should really have a bin racer made and entered.

Joni Parks reported that there are signup sheets all over for the Dragon Boat Races. Alex Hymer of SweetRiver Bakery announced they have four people for a team so far. Joni stated that entry is $25.00 per person and Tacoma is bringing a team over.

Next meeting will be May 21, 2008.

Lunch will be available.

Meeting adjourned.
