Pateros Chamber of Commerce Meeting Minutes
April 15, 2009

Meeting held at Pateros City Hall, and called to order by Chamber President, Jennifer Stennes.

The Homestead provided lunch for an $8 donation.

Motion made by Rebecca Meadows to approve minutes of last meeting as presented. Seconded by Brenda White. Motion passed.

Motion made by Cheryl Schweizer to approve Treasurer’s Report as presented. Seconded by Judy Asmussen. Motion passed.

Mayor’s Briefing Report – Mayor Gail Howe reported on recent City business. She announced there is an opening on the Planning Commission. Business owners are eligible and can call Gail or Linda Marsh at City Hall. The City has a new Deputy Clerk, Tiffany Sullivan.

School Briefing Report – Lois Davies again thanked the voters for passing the Health & Safety Bond. Bonds will go on sale 04/27/09 with a minimum $5,000 purchase. She reported that they are looking at significant budget cuts from the State.

Guest Speaker: Kelsey Mcain and Kaitlin Webber, Co-Queens of the Winthrop 49er’s Days – The ladies introduced themselves and discussed the events that will take place during this year’s 49er’s Days, May 8th through 10th and invited all to attend. They have buttons for sale for $2.00.

New Business: Cameron B. Photography – Cameron Bahnson, owner, introduced herself to the Chamber and briefly discussed her new business, which will open in the old Shannon’s Clip Joint, next to B & B Meats. She announced that, as of today, she will be a member of our Chamber. She is a photographer and designer.

Upcoming Event: Annual Banquet – The event is Monday, April 27th. This year’s winners are 'Chick' Pryor, Citizen of the Year and B & B Specialty Meats, Business of the Year. Rebecca Meadows reports that she has contacted the winners and they are honored and pleased to have been selected. Tickets are $10.00 and on sale at City Hall, and will also be available at the door. Food is being supplied by B & B Meats, Super Stop, The Homestead and SweetRiver Bakery.

Upcoming Event: Business Appreciation & Safety Day – The event is Saturday, May 2nd from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Methow Valley Arts will have an Okanogan artist there to do art projects with kids. The fire department will have its smoke house there and will have goodie bags for the kids with fire hats. Yancey’s will again have hotdogs. The library will hold its book and plant sale and the post office will have a booth. Jennifer Stennes, Chamber President, will coordinate the event. KOZI will be there from 8 a.m. until noon.

Miscellaneous: Judy Asmussen discussed the need for volunteers to paint over graffiti on the railroad bridge. The PUD has donated paint. She would like to see a Beautification of the town in May or June and volunteers are also needed to help clean between the highway and the railroad taking out trash trees, debris and garbage. Anyone interested in helping can contact Judy at the Super Stop.

Joni Parks announced that advertising for this year’s Dragon Boat Races kicked off today. KOZI is the official radio station and will broadcast interviews on the day of the races. Packets for this year are now available. Joni reported that it looks like all teams from last year will be returning this year and there should be at least six new teams. Entry fee is $500 to sponsor a team, or $25.00 per individual. There will again be practicing the week before and early signups get the best practice times. Up to 28 teams will be allowed to enter.

Brenda White of Okanogan Douglas Hospital announced the Relay for Life Cancer Walk will be 6 p.m. Friday, May 15th until 10 p.m. Saturday, May 16th at the Okanogan High School track . There was a Lasagna Feed last Friday that raised $1800. A Silent Auction will be held on May 8th from 8 till 3 in the lobby of ODDH. She will be contacting businesses for donations very soon.

Next meeting will be May 20, 2009. Lunch will be available.
