Pateros Chamber of Commerce Meeting Minutes
August 15, 2007

Meeting held at Pateros City Hall, and called to order by President, Judy Asmussen.

Sweet River Bakery provided lunch for a $7 donation.

Motion made, seconded and passed to approve minutes of last meeting as presented.

Chamber Treasurer, Joey Bruno, reported an ending balance of $2,105.03, with expenses paid for advertisements and insurance. The Chamber has added three new members: Quad City Herald, Kodi’s Noon Saloon, and Billy Boy’s Travel from Florida.

Mayor’s Briefing Report –

Mayor Gail Howe reported that the City will be seeing a draft of the PUD’s 5-year Recreation Plan. Judy Asmussen suggested to Mayor Howe that many locals would like to have an RV dump site in town. Currently, people are being re-directed to Alta Lake for this. Mayor Howe said she will present this at the next Counsel meeting, as there is a Recreational Needs Analysis Study being done. Mayor Howe also spoke about the recent vandalism that has been going on in Pateros. There have been broken sprinklers in Peninsula Park and beer cans strewn on the tennis court. Mayor Howe says she has spoken to the Sheriff and hopefully he will be in Pateros on Monday.

Pateros School Briefing --

Principal Laura Christian reports that the new school year begins on August 27th, with staff back on the 21st. Registration shows approximately 270 students and could possible reach 290 by start of school. Ms. Christian also reported that she was called around 1 a.m. Tuesday morning regarding a break-in at the school. Point of entry was a classroom window, which was broken, and the person also broke into the door of the Tech Lab and stole 15 lap tops.

Upcoming Event: Pateros HydroClassic –

Julie Belisle-Porter reported via telephone that everything is “on track” with the HydroClassic. She reported that Kodi’s Noon Saloon is their biggest sponsor thus far. Advertising is being done through NCW Media, and radio spots on KOZI and KOMW. According to pre-registration, there will be approximately 75 racers present. There will be 16 classes of boats and 5 Grand Prix’s, which are non-alcohol boats that reach approximately 160 MPH. This will be the first time the Grand Prix’s will be here. When asked about vendors, Julie reports that there will be a few, but some have dropped out. There will be no charge to view the races or see the pits. Photos in the pits will be available for $7.00. Races start at 11 a.m. They are still in need of security for the boats and cars for Friday and Saturday nights, and also for help marking sprinklers and putting up fencing in the park Thursday and Friday. Chamber Vice-President, Rebecca Meadows and Mayor Gail Howe assured Julie that some of the City’s staff will be available to help with this. Judy Asmussen will be putting together gift bags for the racers and anyone wishing to contribute something from their business can contact her.

Pateros Brochure –

Chamber Secretary, Mary Pearson of Southern Essence Web Design, reported that 2,000 brochures have been ordered and should be available for distribution by August 24th. She will be printing approximately 200 inserts to go inside the brochure that will list businesses in Pateros and Events.

Miscellaneous --

Bill Crego of Windermere Real Estate introduced himself. He recently moved to Chelan about two months ago from Battleground, WA. He is the Broker Manager for the Windermere office in Brewster. Windermere assists their customers in selling or purchasing homes in the Brewster/Pateros area.

Cheryl Schweizer of the Quad City Herald introduced the Herald’s new ad person, Joni Parks. Ms. Parks reported that the Herald was purchased by NCW Media, which has 5 newspapers covering North Central Washington from Steven’s Pass to Canada.

Brenda White of Okanogan Douglas Hospital reports that their annual Health Fair/Harvest Fest is coming up on September 15th. This year, it will be held at the hospital. She also reports that ODH has opened a new business, Advantage Durable Medical Equipment in Healthbeat Fitness Center. Advantage DME will assist people needing oxygen, C-PAP machines, and other respiratory and home health care needs.

Tracy Miller of Lightning Hawk Orchard thanked everyone for helping to make the 2007 Apple Pie Jamboree a huge success. She said, “We made money, had fun, and helped others”.

Next meeting will be September 19, 2007.
