Pateros Chamber of Commerce Meeting Minutes
February 21, 2007

Meeting held at Pateros City Hall, and called to order by President, Judy Asmussen.

Lake Pateros Café provided lunch for a $7 donation.

Motion made, seconded and passed to approve minutes of last meeting as presented.

Motion made, seconded and passed to approve Treasurer Report with an ending balance of $4283.54.

Introduction of Arnie Marchand with the "Great Columbia Water Trail" project was made. Mr. Marchand spoke of the Project, immediate and future plans, cost, and how Pateros can be involved. This will eventually be an international water trail and Pateros could be the stopping point for Canadian canoers and kayakers. He suggested Pateros businesses provide packages to promote this. Judy Asmussen, Chamber President, inquired about how Pateros can get more money from the State for this. Mr. Marchand replied that promotion will come from the Steering Committee in Wenatchee, which meets once a month. He said we could also get money from corporations that promote such projects, but not from the State level. Judy said she would like a representative from Pateros City Counsel to go to the Steering Committee meetings. Mayor Gail Howe said she has asked City Counsel members to attend these meetings, but has received no definite answer yet. Mayor Howe asked if the Dam people say they would handle this project and Mr. Marchand said yes, they did. He said that we can contact Amy Pope with the Chelan County Port District at amy@ccpd.com. She has all the past information and pictures, and she can get Pateros on the list. Mr. Marchand passed out cards for www.via97.com to learn more about the Highway 97 Corridor.

Tourism Advisory Board --

Mayor Gail Howe reported that she attended the TAB meeting and showed pictures of the Pateros Billboard sign and the leader board, which show that we do promote Pateros. Rebecca Meadows reported that $140,000 is being decided on, so we will be “pleasantly surprised”.

Mayor Briefing Report --

Mayor Howe reports that the City is meeting with Wells Dam on 03/06/07 regarding new 5-Year Plan. The last 5-Year Plan is when we got the benches, picnic tables, etc. City is taking input regarding what Pateros needs. On 02/28/07, the subject of re-licensing of Wells Dam is open to the public in Brewster for comments on how re-licensing has impacted Pateros. Mayor Howe recommends that the public attends. This is not a “gripe session”, however.

Annual Business of the Year Banquet –

The banquet will be advertised in the next billing. Linda Marsh is working on tickets and Rebecca Meadows will help with the food.

Next meeting will be March 21, 2007.

Lunch will be available.

Meeting adjourned.
