Pateros Chamber of Commerce Meeting Minutes
January 21, 2009

Meeting held at Pateros City Hall, and called to order by Chamber President, Jennifer Stennes.

The Homestead provided lunch for an $8 donation.

Motion made by Linda Marsh to approve minutes of last meeting as presented. Seconded by Joni Parks. Motion passed.

Motion made by Rebecca Meadows to approve Treasurer’s Report as presented. Seconded by Schweizer. Motion passed.

Everyone present introduced themselves to today's guests.

Mayor’s Briefing Report – Mayor Gail Howe reported that Brent Sillito is the latest Planning Commission member. She briefly discussed the Police Advisory Board, who held one meeting last year and Mayor Howe is hoping to have another meeting next week.

Guest Speaker: Molly Filer – Molly Filer gave details on the Methow Arts Alliance Program, which serves five school districts, over 5,000 students and 350 teachers, and about thirty artists around the area. She invited everyone to contribute and be involved. They need volunteers to help on art projects and with general fundraising events.

Guest Speaker: Lois Davies, Superintendent of Pateros Schools – Lois Davies announced that she was here today to remind everyone about the upcoming “Health and Safety” bond. Ballots will be in the mail by February 20th. The last bond passed was for upkeep on the schools. This bond covers heating and ventilation system, kitchen updates, fire alarm system, lighting, update of communication system, and work needed on enlarging and updating the transportation building. She offered information to anyone wanting to know more about the bond. There will be an open coffee on February 3rd at 9 a.m. She offered to be present at the February General Meeting with a slide show and more in-depth presentation of the bond issues.

Judy Asmussen read a letter from Friends of Alta Lake regarding Alta Lake level progress and support. The letter discussed the agreement between Friends of Alta Lake and Washington State Parks, which serves to ensure that adequate water levels will be met and maintained on Alta Lake. Friends of Alta Lake requested the Pateros City Council to join the efforts and encourage everyone to participate. A copy of this letter, the history of Friends of Alta Lake, and a copy of the Water Level Management Agreement was handed out to everyone present.

Recap: Christmas at the Confluence – Linda Marsh updated everyone that the event was held indoors at City Hall due to the cold weather. She said she got many comments from people who were glad it was held indoors. Although the change of venue was announced on the radio and signs around town, some people did not know it was going to be inside, so they did not come. Approximately 60 candy bags were passed out. The Live Nativity went really well inside. The Raffle was a huge success and Judy Asmussen reported she will do it again next year, starting earlier gathering items.

2009 Events Schedule – Copies given out. Lois Davies was reminded that students are usually involved with Business Appreciation Day so she could keep that date open. She said the school is planning a garage sale and may wait and have it during the City-Wide Yard Sales event.

Miscellaneous – Joni Parks announced that the Quad City Herald will be giving ˝ pages to the schools. Chamber Vice-President Rebecca Meadows thanked Kevin Stennes for presenting to the TAB Board this year. Chamber President Jennifer Stennes announced that the Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce will be presenting a Business Crime and Fraud Prevention program at Bridgeport City Hall on Thursday, January 22 at 7:00 p.m. This program is for local businesses, as well as home owners. Joni Parks announced that the 2009 Dragon Boat Races packets are now out. This year, there will be two courses, 250 meter and 500 meter. Tacoma DBA will again furnish the boats, training and equipment.

Next meeting will be February 18, 2009. Lunch will be available.
