President Judy Asmussen introduced Sue Johnson with the Educational Talent Search, who handed out a paper, “All About ETS”. This is a new program going in Pateros schools. It is Federally funded and designed to help 6th – 12th graders stay on track, stay in school and go on to further their education. Ms. Johnson also reported that this program also helps Veterans of any age and kids who attended but did not finish college. She will be speaking to 6th – 11th graders so they can fill out applications for this program. They must have a GPA of 2.0 or greater, be from a low-income household, and neither parent has graduated from a four-year college. She will meet with each student to make sure they are keeping their grades up and attending school regularly.

Tourism Advisory Board --

Treasurer, Joey Bruno, reported that Mayor Gail Howe attended the TAB meeting and the Chamber received a letter from them saying we were awarded $2620.00.

Mayor Howe reported that the City is trying to get an April 2nd deadline for re-licensing of Wells Dam. She also stated that the school attended the Planning Committee meeting and took Pateros brochures, but she later realized that the insert inside this brochure is outdated, so the Chamber needs to update them and also have the ability to print out additional copies and make changes as needed. President Judy Asmussen suggested using the TAB monies for this. Martin Nolan suggested having Chamber secretary, Mary Pearson of Southern Essence Web Design, have a go at this. Motion was made, seconded and passed to set aside $500.00 of the TAB monies to begin brochure process.

Upcoming Event: Annual Business of the Year Banquet – April 23, 2007

MC needs to be added to the program before printing. We will also need presenters of the Business of the Year and Citizen of the Year awards. This will be decided at a later date. Rebecca Meadows, Chamber Vice-President, is working on the food, and Joey Bruno and Linda Marsh will do the decorations.

Apple Pie Jamboree --

Rosemary Allison reported that some of the volunteers from last year’s Jamboree will help again this year. Volunteers (Age 18 and over) should call Rosemary or Bob Allison at 923-2993. Rosemary’s husband, Bob, has volunteered to take care of the 4th of July fireworks stand this year. All proceeds to go to the Jamboree. The fireworks shed will need a new roof and Bob Allison will contact Varrelman for this. Sun Mountain Lodge called Tracy Miller and said they would like to feature the name and recipe of the pie contest winner. Logo samples for this year’s Jamboree have been submitted and passed around for viewing. Tracy will handle the pies at the school, Rosemary and her sister will do specialty pies. President Judy Asmussen suggested pre-selling whole pies and having the order forms available on the website. Tracy Miller joined the meeting and reported that “The Company Band” has agreed to play at the Jamboree. Rosemary said that there will be a quilt show again this year.
