Pateros Chamber of Commerce Meeting Minutes
March 19, 2008

Meeting held at Pateros City Hall, and called to order by President, Judy Asmussen.

Lake Pateros Sports Bar & Grill provided lunch for a $7 donation.

Motion made, seconded and passed to approve minutes of last meeting as presented.

Chamber Treasurer, Joey Bruno, gave the Treasurer’s Report, which showed no activity this month. The Report shows beginning and ending balances of $3,188.90. Motion made, seconded and passed to approve Treasurer’s Report as presented.

Mayor's Briefing Report –

Mayor Gail Howe was not present at today’s meeting. City Clerk Linda Marsh reported that the City passed ordinances to increase the Mayor’s wages and to limit parking in city lots to no more than twenty-four hours.

School Briefing Report –

Megan Allen with the Leadership class was present and reported that her personal Leadership project is planning a carnival on Saturday, May 10th from 10 a.m. until midnight. There will be pony rides and a jumping cage, and also a dance that night.

Upcoming Event: Annual Banquet --

Joey Bruno reported that the church has been reserved. Linda Marsh said that they have received quite a few ballots so far. Deadline for turning in ballots is April 10th. The banquet will be held at 6:30 pm on April 28.

Guest: Rick Kaufmann of David Rodstol, Inc. –

Mr. Kaufmann was in the area and wanted to attend today’s meeting to introduce himself and their company. They sell office copiers, printers and supplies. He stated that his father and grandfather were Chamber Managers.

Member Updates –

Brent and Angela Sillito of Lake Pateros Rentals reported that their business is picking up after a pretty slow winter. They have new lawn and garden items and have updated their brochures and website.

Debbie Evans of NCNB reported that their new building and location is up and going well. She invited all present to stop by and see the new site.

Janet Jordan of Martin-Morris Agency, Inc. reported that she is the chair person of the Apple Bin Races in the Brewster Bonanza Days on June 13, 14 and 15. NCNB and Sterling Savings Bank are on board for the races and she invited the Pateros Chamber to sponsor a bin. There are no entry fees for this event. She said that the Senior Center in Brewster may possibly have a pancake feed during the event. Rebecca Meadows stated that they are looking for a Pateros Chamber entry in the parade.

Coleen Couch of Sterling Savings Bank, and President of the Brewster Chamber of Commerce, reported that Sterling will be doing 80% loan value loans on mobile homes that are no more than ten years old.. She also reported that tickets for the Brewster award banquet are on sale. The event is on April 7th at 6:30 pm. No theme for the banquet was given, but they will be serving healthy foods.

Brenda White of Okanogan Douglas Hospital announced they held their Easter basket sale last Friday, which went well. They sold about 113 baskets. The Relay for Life walk will be held in April at the Okanogan High School track. There will also be a pie sale on the 28th and a silent auction on May 9th. All proceeds go to the American Cancer Society. ODH recently received an $89,000 grant for a new cardiac rehab department. Target opening date for their Mansfield clinic is May 1st.

Cheryl Schweizer of The Quad City Herald reported the Quad is working on the Rec Guide.

Carolyn Byrd of Associated Real Estate reported that they have have a good business plan for working on their branding. They will be advertising at the Pateros Realtor and plan to have the slogan “Discover Pateros”. They will have a booth in Ellensburg at the Backcountry Horsement’s Spring Jubilee. She wants to help promote Pateros as a “gateway to recreation”. Associated Real Estate has offices in Manson and Snohomish.

Rebecca Meadows of KOZI reminded everyone of Business Appreciation Day on May 3rd.

Mary Pearson of Southern Essence Web Design reported that her business is growing slowly due to the fact that she relies on word-of-mouth over paid advertising to keep her costs low. She stated that she is currently working on two new sites and has a couple of possible new ones coming up.

Judy Asmussen of the Pateros Super Stop and Rivers Restaurant reported that the store will be doing some cosmetic changes soon and the restaurant now has steak bites on their menu. She stated that everything is running smoothly and she has a wonderful crew.

Dragon Boat Races --

Joni Parks reported that they are looking for a large sponsor for the races and are offering top billing for the spot. She stated they still need teams put together and it will definitely be a great time for all.

Miscellaneous --

President Judy Asmussen reported that she had contacted the Harlem Ambassadors in regard to a possible fund-raising event. They replied that they are booked for an event in Okanogan and have a Game Agreement not to book a game within competing distance, so they will not be able to come to Pateros this year. They did not disclose the cost for booking. Judy suggested we discuss this next year.

Next meeting will be April 16, 2008.
